Viola Lukács

Director of Curatorial Affairs, 0xCollection, Basel, and founder of BINÁLÉ - Budapest's Expanded Media Art Biennial

Viola Lukács is a curator and writer based in Basel, working across the entanglements of human and nonhuman agencies in contemporary art - ecological, technological, institutional systems and their shifting interdependencies. In 2015 she curated MetalMetria, devoted to the sculptural work of Bernar Venet. As digital and time-based media reshaped the field, Lukács reframed the curator's role as a connector across disciplines, working with artists, academic institutions, museums, collectors, and corporations on projects that move outside conventional exhibition formats. She has collaborated with Sotheby's, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Postmasters Gallery, New York. In 2021 she co-founded NFT DEB, Europe's first generative hackathon and conference, at the intersection of art, technology, and climate. She is the founding curator of BINÁLÉ, Budapest's expanded media art biennial, whose next edition takes shape in the spring of 2027. She publishes regularly on contemporary art and digital culture, and is currently Director of Curatorial Affairs at 0xCollection, Basel.
