Péter Weiler studied at The Art Institute of Philadelphia before returning to Hungary in 1995, where he continued his career as a painter in Budapest. His work is known for connecting contemporary art with public spaces, social commentary, and innovative exhibition formats. In 2010, his Elvis in Budapest series traveled across the city on the backpacks of Hajtás Pajtás bicycle couriers for a month, while the collection was also released as postcards, calendars, and posters. In 2014, he transformed the bus terminal in Köveskál into a temporary gallery, presenting his Route '71 series inspired by Lake Balaton. The artworks later became large-scale installations at the Balaton Sound Festival. In 2015, Weiler attracted nationwide attention with a performance protesting Hungary's Sunday shopping restrictions by selling products from the trunk of his car in front of closed supermarkets. The same year, he organized the Különjárat (Special Service) exhibition inside a vintage Robur bus in Tihany, showcasing another Balaton-inspired collection. His Pop New York exhibition opened at Godot Gallery in 2016, inaugurated by then U.S. Ambassador to Hungary Colleen Bell. In 2017, he curated an exhibition connected to poet Judit Hevesi's book Holnap ne gyere at Andrássy Avenue 66. In 2020, his exhibition Checkout explored the history of the legendary Chelsea Hotel in New York, highlighting for the first time in Hungary the story of its Hungarian owners, the Bard family, who supported generations of emerging artists and writers, including Leonard Cohen, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Jim Morrison, Allen Ginsberg, and Jack Kerouac. Through a series of painted portraits, the exhibition presented the lives of these iconic cultural figures in a large industrial venue in Budapest. In 2021, Weiler became the first visual artist in Hungary to create and sell an artwork for cryptocurrency. His NFT titled Bitcoin Mine on the Great Hungarian Plain (Bitcoin bánya az Alföldön) was sold for 1 Ethereum, marking a milestone in the country's digital art scene.
