Dr. István Domán Ph.D., FRCS

Orthopedic surgeon, hip and knee replacement specialist, robotic surgeon

He obtained his specialist qualification in 1998 and his Ph.D. in 2003. Until 2007, he worked at the Department of Orthopaedics of the University of Pécs Medical School. He spent extended periods abroad on fellowships in Spain, Italy, South Korea, and France, and also participated in study visits to the United States, Japan, Belgium, and the United Kingdom. From 2005, he worked periodically—and between 2007 and 2013 full-time—as a consultant in the United Kingdom. Upon returning to Hungary, he served for three years as Head of the Department of Orthopaedics at Balassa János Hospital in Tolna County. Since 2016, he has been working exclusively in private practice. His surgical expertise focuses primarily on hip and knee joint replacements, performing around 600 such operations annually. In addition to employing minimally invasive techniques, he is a dedicated advocate for technologies that improve surgical precision—both in planning (2D digital planning, 3D CT-based planning, 4D motion analysis-based surgical planning) and in execution (patient-specific surgical guides, custom-made implants, surgical navigation, and robotic assistance). In 2021, Corin—one of the global leaders in orthopaedic implant manufacturing and innovative technology development—awarded him the “Centre of Excellence” designation, recognizing his clinical achievements, contributions to professional training, and commitment to improving surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction. He is a member of several national and international professional societies and is a regular speaker and participant at professional training courses and conferences both in Hungary and abroad.
