Dr. Csaba Benedek

HUN-REN Institute for Computer Science and Control

Dr. Csaba Benedek is Deputy Director for Research Coordination and Scientific Advisor at the HUN-REN Institute for Computer Science and Control (SZTAKI), and a Full Professor at the Faculty of Information Technology and Bionics, Pázmány Péter Catholic University. His research focuses on 2D/3D computer vision and the automatic analysis of geospatial data using artificial intelligence (AI) methods. He earned his PhD in 2008 and was awarded the title Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (DSc) in 2020. In 2023, he became a member of ELLIS, the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems, a leading pan-European AI excellence network. Dr. Benedek has served as principal investigator in numerous national and EU-funded research projects and is an active contributor to the National Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Hungary. Since 2021, he has served as Vice President of the John von Neumann Computer Society (NJSZT). For his scientific achievements and dedication to mentoring future generations, he has received several prestigious awards, including: the Bolyai Plaque of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (2019),  the Michelberger Master Award of the Hungarian Academy of Engineering (2020), and the Master Teacher Gold Medal from the National Scientific Students’ Associations Council (2023).
