Dr. Szócska Miklós

Miklós Szócska is a university professor and institute director, an expert in healthcare reform. Between 2010 and 2014, he served as State Secretary for Health at the Ministry of National Resources and later at the Ministry of Human Capacities. He earned his medical degree in 1989 from Semmelweis University of Medicine. After completing his studies, he participated in healthcare management training programs in the Netherlands, Japan, and London. He also pursued public administration studies in the United States and obtained a master’s degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 1998. 

Between 1991 and 2009, he organized and developed the Health Services Management Training Centre at Semmelweis University, which was officially established in 1995. From 2009, he served as its director, and from 2010 until his state secretary appointment, he was the founding dean of the university’s newly established Faculty of Health and Public Services. From 1992 to 1993, he was a supervisory board member of the Health Insurance Fund, elected by the Parliament. Between 1993 and 1994, he served as an advisor to the Ministry of Welfare, and from 1998 to 1999, he advised the National Health Insurance Fund (OEP). 

He is currently the director of the Health Services Management Training Centre at Semmelweis University and a permanent expert of the Artificial Intelligence Task Force of the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV), as well as a participant in numerous international and domestic development and research programs. For the 2024/2025 academic year, he was awarded a senior fellowship at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government (M-RCBG) at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. His main fields of expertise include change management, leadership, electronic health, health communication, artificial intelligence and data science, as well as the global regulation of these fields and data-driven business models. In September 2016, he was nominated by the Hungarian government for the position of Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO).
