Dr. Petra Aczél

Prof. Dr. Petra Aczél is a university professor. She was born in Budapest and completed her university and doctoral studies at Eötvös Loránd University, where she also habilitated in 2011 in the field of linguistics. She has been working in Hungarian higher education since 1995. She has taught at, among others, Eötvös Loránd University, Pázmány Péter Catholic University, and has been a visiting professor at the University of Richmond. 

Her research areas include verbal and visual rhetoric, public persuasive communication, and new media communication. She has published over 200 academic and professional papers in Hungarian and English in these fields. Six of her PhD students have earned doctoral degrees so far, and her PhD supervisory work is ongoing. 

She is Vice-Chair of the Permanent Interdisciplinary Committee on Communication and Media Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), a member of the Social Sciences Expert Committee of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB), Research Director of the Media Science Institute of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH), Chair of the Montágh Committee of the Media Services and Support Trust Fund (MTVA), Chair of the Hungarian Language Committee of the National Secondary School Academic Competition (OKTV), and a member of the editorial board of two international and two Hungarian academic journals. 

She was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit (civil division) in 2019, the European Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities (CEU) in 2017, the Kenneth Rice Award (Corvinus University of Budapest) in 2015, and the Sebők Tamás Award of the Hungarian Communication Studies Association in 2006. She has been voted Teacher of the Semester/Year twice at Corvinus University of Budapest.
