He earned his degree in economics in 1999 at the Budapest University of Economic Sciences. Beginning in 1998, he worked as a macroeconomic analyst at the Government Debt Management Agency, then between 2000 and 2002 he served as lead analyst at ING Investment Management Ltd.

In 2002, he joined the Central Bank of Hungary (Magyar Nemzeti Bank), where he became lead economist, then deputy head, and later director of the financial stability department. Between 2013 and 2015, he held the position of Executive Director for Financial Stability and Lending Incentives at the Central Bank and was a member of the Financial Stability Board as well as the European Banking Authority.

From 2015 to 2020, he served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Hungary and was also a member of the Monetary Council. Between 2015 and 2017, he additionally held the position of Chairman of the Budapest Stock Exchange.

From 2020 to 2022, he acted as a Prime Ministerial Commissioner and Chief Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister, providing expert consultation on economic policy and contributing to the coordination of economic policy branches.

He is the author of numerous studies, analyses, and articles.

From 2022 until December 31, 2023, he served as Minister for Economic Development, and from 2024 onward he has been serving as Minister for National Economy.
